The Skills Recognition Centre provides a referral service to clients regarding educational options, career pathways and skills assessment options.  The Centre hosts the Overseas Qualification Unit for the Northern Territory and is a Testing Centre for VETASSESS.  It also offers referral to industry bodies and government departments as well as support services and providers.

The Centre, located in the Smith St Mall, Darwin City, is available for hire to businesses and community groups that offer services that relate to the Centre’s core business and/or support the development of skills, capability and capacity of the NT workforce.    It is ideally suited for hosting small events.

The Centre is available for hire for events between 5pm and 7pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) and weekends by negotiation.  The Centre has the capacity to book up to two events per week.

The Centre may be open to bookings for smaller activities during standard work hours (8.30am-4.30pm, Monday to Friday), provided activities do not impact on standard Centre activities (i.e. the Centre must remain open and accessible to the public for Centre-related queries and activities during business hours).  Contact us to discuss your needs further if you are looking at activities during business hours.

Venue and equipment details

The Centre venue is best suited to educational and industry events for up to 25 people, such as:

  • Board meetings
  • Networking meetings
  • Seminars
  • Workshops
  • Information sessions.


Please note that there is no capability to accommodate self-catering.  External catering (arranged by the hirer) will be considered upon request, however additional cleaning fees will apply.

Toilet Facilities

Toilet facilities, including disabled access, are located in the Vic Arcade, approximately 30 metres from the Centre.  The toilet facilities close at 7pm.

Cleaning goods

A vacuum cleaner and cleaning products are available for you to use to clean up after your event (requirement of hire).  A bin and bin bag will be provided.  You will be required to remove and dispose of any rubbish from your event.

Equipment/Furniture available for use

  • 12 desk chairs
  • 2 adjustable height tables (60cm x 60cm)
  • 4 tables (L 160cm W 80cm)

The Centre has no storage facilities therefore furniture cannot be removed from the venue if not required for your event.  The office and utility rooms at the rear of the Centre are not available for hire or use.

Access to the venue for set-up and pack-up

Set up and pack up time must be considered in your booking time.  Access outside of the time booked will incur additional fees.  In instances where pack-up and cleaning runs later than 7pm, the hirer needs to note that there will be no toilet facilities accessible.  The venue must be vacated no later than 7.15pm to allow for the Centre staff member who will remain onsite, to be able to lock up and also depart the venue.


You must ensure that the venue and its facilities and surrounds are left in a clean and tidy condition, including proper disposal of waste generated by you.

You are responsible for cleaning the venue at the end of your event.  A vacuum cleaner and cleaning products will be available for use.  If you fail to clean after the event to a satisfactory standard, then an additional cleaning fee of a minimum $65 will be charged.  If any stains to furniture or carpet etc is incurred due to spillages then further cleaning fees will be payable to remove such stains.

Alcohol and Smoking

Alcohol may not be brought into the Skills Recognition Centre or consumed on site. This venue is not a licensed venue.  Events involving alcohol cannot be catered for.

The Centre is a smoke-free environment.  Smoking, including the use of e-cigarettes, is not permissible in the venue.
